Death of Former Chiswick Councillor Announced

The death has been announced of former Chiswick councillor Pat Sterne aged 91.
Born in Birmingham, she had spent her career working in special needs education after training at Sheffield University
She came down to London to work in North Croft School which was based near Askew Road before it closed in 1993.
She was first elected for Chiswick Homefields ward the following year and held the seat again in 1998. Since she retired in 2002, no party other than the Conservatives have won a seat in that ward.
Rather than taking a more senior role in Hounslow Council, she remained focused on constituency matters and was seen as a diligent representative who helped residents with a range of issues including housing.
She supplemented her work on the council with extensive volunteering particularly at Age Concern Chiswick where she organised trips for elderly residents.
She was a supporter of the campaign to save Chiswick New Pool in 2000 even though the proposal had been made by her own party. She also worked to save the Chiswick Lodge Hospital, continuing her efforts even after she had stepped down as a councillor.
Her husband, Michael Sterne also sat on Hounslow Council. He passed away in 2015.
She is survived by a sister, three children, nine grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
