The Microloan Foundation needs new volunteers
The MicroLoan Foundation is a microfinance organisation which provides small loans and business training to women in sub-Saharan Africa, enabling them to set up their own businesses and work their way out of poverty.
Established by Chiswick entrepreneur Peter Ryan in 2002, MLF started with a single employee working from a garage in Malawi and has grown to become a key player in the microfinance sector.
In total, MLF has provided loans to over 10,000 women and, with a repayment rate in 2007 of 99%, is showing that – with the right training and support – even the poorest people in the world can become successful businesswomen.
Their major fundraising event this year is ‘Walk to Work’, taking place on 12th September. The concept is simple: we are asking people to make a small donation to MLF to register and walk to work - or anywhere else of their choice - that day.
