A local councillor from Chiswick was one of the guests at the launch of the Inclusive Britain; a Government's response to the report by the Commission on Race and Ethnic Disparities.

Ron Mushiso, who represents Turnham Green ward, was one of Minister Kemi Badenoch’s guests at the event held in Westminster and Downing Street.

The Inclusive Britain strategy sets out 70 actions planned by the government to try and tackle racial disparities, boost opportunity and promote fairness.

The independent study of the Commission on Race and Ethnic Disparities (CRED) made 24 recommendations to address ethnic disparities. The government says every single one of these ideas is addressed in Inclusive Britain, which also includes an Action Plan for creating a fairer and more inclusive society in the long run.

Councillor Mushiso has been working with Hounslow Council and the Conservative Group on their diversity and inclusion agenda. Speaking about the CRED Report, he stated, "I am delighted that our Government has taken a strong position adopting these recommendations. I was pleased to have been able to contribute to the discussions that followed at Downing Street and again with Kemi Badenoch MP at the launch."

Cllr Mushiso met with the Chair of CRED Tony Sewell who, whilst attending the launch, said, “When the Commission began its work in the wake of the Black Lives Matter movement, we set out to examine the evidence and root causes for the disparities faced particularly by ethnic minorities and offer solutions to the Government to address them. The Government’s response, Inclusive Britain, does just that.

"This is a major step towards a fairer, more open and more inclusive society and, importantly, focuses on the practical actions that will improve people’s lives. We all should throw our weight behind this strategy so we can build a better society for all.”

The topic was discussion was centred around the role of schools, local government and community groups in the implementation phase of these recommendation.
