As has become traditional, flowers have been laid at the base of his statue on Chiswick High Road to mark his birthday.

Members of the William Hogarth Trust have done this annually at noon on 10 November since the bronze statue of the artist with his pet pug was unveiled in 2001. Sometimes there is even a rendition of Happy Birthday.

The birthday wreath was prepared by Dominic Hughes of Pot Pourri flowers.

This year marks 325 since the painter, who made his home in Chiswick, was born in 1697.

As part of the fundraising effort for the statue, birthday parties were held in Chiswick Town Hall in 2000 and 2002. The William Hogarth Trust grew out of the fund-raising committee which commissioned the Millennium statue of the artist.

This site remains committed to providing local community news and public interest journalism.

Articles such as the one above are integral to what we do. We aim to feature as much as possible on local societies, charities based in the area, fundraising efforts by residents, community-based initiatives and even helping people find missing pets.
