No Move for Fishers Lane Playground

Plan to shift it to Chiswick Back Common abandoned

Hounslow Council have decided not to move the Chiswick Back Common playground across the road onto the Common itself and landscape the current site.

The plan had met with stiff opposition from local residents and ward councillors.

Cllr Peter Thompson commented, “This is sensible decision in light of a near total lack of support for these plans. I understand that the idea for moving the playground came from the belief that a move would make the playground safer to access. Whilst I can understand this point of view it is impossible to justify the loss of open space on the Common.”

The refurbishment of the playground has to completed by 31st March 2013 to avoid the loss of grant funding. This play area is one of eight the Council are refurbishing throughout the borough at a cost of £952,000. The new play area will be targeted at toddlers and juniors who are currently the main users.

A consultation about moving Fishers Lane playground across the road onto Chiswick Back Common was undertaken but it was poorly publicised with many local residents and ward Councillors unaware it was taking place.
