Car Catches Fire In Chiswick Lane

Fire Brigade tackles blaze as road closed off

The Fire Brigade was called to Chiswick Lane earlier today after a car went on fire. The driver of the black people carrier jumped out of the car and phoned the fire brigade as people rallied to help. There were no injuries.

The incident happened around 11 am. Eye witnesses said that it developed into a big blaze within a couple of minutes and there was also a small explosion.

Members of the public stopped traffic in both directions and asked nearby residents to stay in their homes for fear of the petrol tank exploding.

The Fire Brigade arrived within 5 minutes and worked quickly to put the blaze out. A parked car in front of the burning car was also believed to have sustained some damage.

The road was closed both directions for some time until the incident was dealt with.

Last week a car caught fire outside Strand on the Green school near the sub post office.

In another incident in Chiswick earlier today two people were taken to hospital following a collision between a motorcyclist and car in the Stamford Brook area. The Ambulance service said that the two people on the motorbike were taken to Chelsea and Westminster hospital but it was more as a " precaution" than for any suspected injuries.

The incident caused some traffic disruption.
