Charges Against Mark Lamarr Dropped By CPS

'Insufficient evidence' to proceed with kidnap and assault prosecution

Charges against Chiswick-based comedian and presenter Mark Lamarr have been dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS).

The 51-year-old was due to appear at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court this Tuesday (2 October) but the CPS discontinued the case saying there was insufficient evidence to proceed. He had been facing charges of assault and false imprisonment relating to an incident at his home in Chiswick on 1 September.

The police were called after a woman’s screams were heard coming from his terraced house. The women is believed to be his ex-partner.

A CPS spokesperson said,"We have a duty to keep cases under continuing review and, following a further review of this case, we concluded that there was insufficient evidence to provide a realistic prospect of conviction."

Mr Lamarr is best known for being the host of music quiz Never Mind the Buzzcocks for nine years up to 2005.
