Found guilty of illegally entering terminal at Heathrow airport

A Chiswick man who broke into the cockpit of a British Airways jet earlier this month has been fined.

Luis Costa, aged 38, of Stonehill Road entered a guilty plea at Uxbridge Magistrates' Court this Saturday (19 March).

Two weeks earlier he gained access to the cockpit of an empty jet parked at Heathrow Airport and locked himself in. Due to the security measures designed to protect pilots during flights, the Fire Brigade had to be called to remove him from the plane. There is no suggestion that the incident was terror related.

He was fined £100 for illegally entering a terminal at Heathrow and made to pay additional costs of £120 for boarding the plane unlawfully.

He disappeared for a short time after his initial hearing after attending Uxbridge Magistrates' Court on 7 March and was subject to a police appeal after he didn't return home as expected. Officers were concerned for Mr Costa's well being and mental welfare. He was found safe and well in the Denham area of Buckinghamshire.
