Reports of cars being broken into while parents collect children
Police in Chiswick have warned parents collecting their children at school not to leave items on display in cars, following a renewed spate of thefts.
A spokesperson said there had been increase in thefts from vehicles last week , with seven incidents reported across Chiswick in one 24-hour period.
Some incidents involved the thieves smashing car windows outside schools while the parents went inside to collect children, having left valuable items on display.
“We would reiterate our warning to the public to not leave anything in their cars, even for a few minutes- phones and handbags are easily taken by smashing a window,” said the police.
Recently builders have been targets of the smash ‘n grab thieves, who have stolen tools while the van owner was momentarily away from the vehicle.
It is understood that a gang of thieves is circulating in the Chiswick area, travelling on bicycles and watching out for an opportunity to commit a crime.
A police decoy car is now operating in Chiswick and there are plain clothes officers patrolling in a bid to tackle the criminal activity.
