Man In Hospital After Police Arrest in Chiswick


Police say he became ill in police car after alleged assault

A man is in hospital after becoming ill while being arrested in Chiswick last week.

The police said in a statement that at 7.20pm on Thursday 29 March, they were contacted regarding an alleged assault by a man on a woman in the street in Chiswick.

The ambulance service attended and the woman aged 43 was taken to a west London hospital with a facial injury.

A man aged 44 was arrested at a nearby flat on suspicion of assault.

He was placed in the rear of a marked police car, pending the arrival of a police van to transport him to a police station.

In the police car he fell ill and was taken by ambulance to a west London hospital where his condition is understood to be serious but stable.

Inquiries are underway by the Directorate of Professional Standards into the circumstances of the incident. The Independent Police Complaints Commission has been informed
