Buddhist Monk Found Guilty of Indecent Assaults

Offences occurred in the seventies in Chiswick

A senior Buddhist monk from south London has been found guilty of indecent assaults. The assaults took place in Chiswick in the 1970s.

Pahalagama Somaratana, of Dulverton Road, Croydon, was convicted of four counts of indecent assault on a female. But he was found not guilty of rape.

He was the chief incumbent of Thames Buddhist Vihara. Police said the assaults had taken place in Chiswick, west London, in the 1970s.

The 65-year-old will be sentenced at Isleworth Crown Court on 1 June.
