Letterbox Burglars Strike Again

More incidents in Chiswick after last week's warnings

Local police have reiterated warnings about 'letterbox burglaries' after a spate of incidents.

Last week they were knocking on doors in some areas of Chiswick warning residents of a number of burglaries where access is gained via the letterbox.

On Monday morning (8th November) there was another two incidents in which burglars reached through letterboxes to open front doors. These incidents occurred in the north part of Chiswick which is covered by the Southfields Safer Neighbourhoods team.

A member of the team told ChiswickW4.com, "Although we are trying as hard as possible to arrest these offenders, there are a few measures residents can take to possibly avoid becoming victims of this particular crime. Firstly double lock your front doors when going out and in particular overnight. Secondly, do not leave either house nor car keys in the vicinity of the front door. Burglars are often equipped with articles to assist them in stealing keys even if you believe they are out of reach. And lastly we recommend letter box guards. "

In an emergency always dial 999, in all other cases call Non-emergency number - 0300 123 1212.
