Footage has been released of the arrest of two people caught trying to steal from the Eye Studio opticians on Chiswick High Road.
The video from the shop’s Ring camera shows how the Metropolitan Police’s Flying Squad was on hand to apprehend the masked thieves.
The attempted theft took place at 4.19am on 30 April. Initially, the window of the shop is smashed in with what looks like a breeze block and the thieves make for the displays of sunglasses frames, throwing them into a Sainsbury’s bag-for-life.
Shortly afterwards, what at first appears to be a passerby approaches the front door and then officers brandishing tasers appear and shout at the thieves to get down. Around nine officers are soon in the shop and the thieves drop to the ground and are handcuffed.
The police had arrived at the scene in unmarked cars within a minute of the alarm being set off.
A police spokesmand said, "On Tuesday 30th April at 0422 hours, police were called to Chiswick High Road, W4 to reports of people smashing up a shop at the location.
"On police arrival, it was believed that a burglary had occurred and 2 males were detained inside the location.
"2 males were arrested at the location for the offence of burglary. Both males were charged and were remanded in custody awaiting trial."
