Richard Moy comes down from Wolverhampton to Turnham Green

The new vicar for Christ Church, Turnham Green , the Reverend Richard Moy, has started in his new post, and promises to make his church “ a Beacon on the Green” for Chiswick.

He was inducted on Tuesday,(January 23rd) by Bishop Paul Williams at a ceremony which was attended by the local MP, Mary Macleod as well as representatives of all the Chiswick churches, and members of the congregation.

The Rev’d Moy (33) who has spent the last seven years in Wolverhampton is married to Nicola, who will be licensed as Associate Vicar in May. The couple have three young children, Ella (3), Ben( 2) and Toby ( four months).

During his time in Wolverhampton, he spent six years as a curate and then as Pioneer Minister, setting up a new church for young adults. He also spent time advising the diocese on starting new churches and was a stay-at-home father while his wife Nicola was finishing her curacy. He was also a member of the General Synod of the Church of England.

Richard Moy grew up in Exeter and spent his teenage years in Croydon before having a “life changing experience” aged 17, while on a visit to Rumania, where he spent time working with a Christian mission group. After that he decided to enter the Church and studied theology at Cambridge. He has also done some teaching, worked as a residential youth worker with homeless young people in Walsall, and also worked for the church in India, Malaysia and Holland.

He met Nicola while they were both doing outreach work in Swindon in 1998. They have been married since 2003.

The couple, who moved to Chiswick just before Christmas say they are delighted with the warm welcome they received and are enjoying getting to know the area. They have already invited their congregation to visit them at home for a glass or wine, or even help toss pancakes on Pancake Day.

“ I see one of my big tasks as being a ‘ Beacon on the Green’, attracting people to the church but also going out into the community, whether it’s to the High Street, schools, refuges or places where there is more loneliness or trouble than you can see at first.”

He is interested in football, is a former chaplain to Wolves FC , and is a keen user of social media and modern communication, such as blogging and Twitter .
