From Edinburgh to London for cancer research and Maggies Centres
Local resident Mandy Riches is embarking on what she described as "a crazy scary challenge" to raise money for Maggies Centres and Cancer Research UK.
She intends cycling from Edinburgh Maggies Centre to London Maggies Centre which will take her up hill and down dale over 460 odd miles in five days in July this year.
Mandy says; "After facing Hodgkins Lymphoma twice in the 1990s, it was a huge disappointment when I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in 2011/12. I look back to two years ago and I still vividly remember the excitement I felt when I was actually able to pull a t-shirt over my head, simply because a couple of weeks earlier this easy task that I used to take for granted, would have generated excruciating pain post my surgery. This third time going through cancer also hit me much harder emotionally."
However, now she feels fitter and healthier and is taking on the challenge to raise £5,000 for Maggies Centres and Cancer Research UK.
"I feel incredibly lucky, and I am very grateful for the support of my family and friends, the wonderful team and people I have met at the Maggies Cancer Centre in London, and the sheer amount of research that is undertaken to beat this disease that touches so many people.
" Cancer Research UK carries out fantastic work. Maggie's serves a different purpose but one which is just as important at this horrible time, offering anyone and everyone affected by cancer free practical, emotional and social support across several centres throughout the UK.
"Maggie's was there for me and I want to help make sure they can continue to support others that need their services and a place just to be at this time.
