Money raised will help ovarian cancer awareness
TV presenters Sarah Greene and former Tomorrows World presenter, Maggie Philbin, both Chiswick residents, were amongst nearly 100 women and girls who completed the Adidas 5K Women's Challenge fundraising race for ovarian cancer in Hyde Park at the weekend.
Sarah Greene, who captained the team for Target Ovarian Cancer charity, was running in memory of her mother.
The former Blue Peter presenter and Dancing on Ice star added: “Last June, I lost my beautiful mother Marjie. She had been diagnosed with ovarian cancer just three weeks before she died. The symptoms were unknown to us - her family - and had been missed by her doctors.
“Target Ovarian Cancer is determined that this all too common situation changes. Fast.”
Amy Cartlidge, Chiswick resident and Fundraising Manager for the charity, said: “We’re delighted that women up and down the country signed for this important fundraising event and turned out to show their support for Target Ovarian Cancer’s vital work.”
Target Ovarian Cancer uses its funds to run events that help women with ovarian cancer adjust to life after diagnosis. It is also campaigns for a national awareness campaign to improve the rate of early diagnosis as too many women in the UK are diagnosed too late.
About 6,800 women are diagnosed with the disease in the UK each year. Currently many are diagnosed with advanced disease and only 36% survive five years after diagnosis.
