St. Michael's Jubilee event will have food, music, and art
Actress Rula Lenska will open the Jubilee Neighbourhood Festival at St Michael’s Church, Elmwood Road, Chiswick, on Saturday, June 2nd.
Chester-based Modern Rock band, The Identity, headline the Festival on Saturday 2 & Sunday 3 June. And everything is 100 per cent FREE!
"The Queen says she hopes that the Jubilee will 'be an opportunity for people to come together in a spirit of neighbourliness and celebration of their own communities'," says Reverend Martine Oborne of St Michael's, "and she is echoing the words of Jesus who tells us to love our neighbour as ourselves.
"So, at St Michael’s Church in Elmwood Road, we are inviting all our neighbours here in Chiswick to celebrate with us. And the whole festival - all the food, entertainment, music and games and activities for children - is completely free."
Local celebrity Rula Lenska conducts the Grand Opening at 2pm on Saturday 2 June.
Free traditional Afternoon Teas will be served in the outdoor Cafe and live Jazz pianist, Ceri Evans will be playing.
Free kids’ sumo wrestling, a bouncy castle, craft stalls, face-painting, a nail bar and table tennis should keep children entertained for hours whilst parents can browse the free plant and book stalls. There is the chance to burn off your cream teas at 3pm when local fitness guru, Anny, stages a free Zumba class.
Culture vultures can soak up a little theatre as St Michael’s Players perform an acted rehearsed reading of local playwright Nicolas Ridley’s ‘The Cherry Blossom Screen’ at 4pm.
There’s also the chance to see the Vortex Art Exhibition inside St Michael’s Church in support of Cedars Youth Charity from 2nd -10th June.
From 5pm, things heat up with a free BBQ, serving burgers and hotdogs.
Then from 6-8pm, local band Jacob & Goliath take to the outdoor stage followed by the Festival's headline act, Chester-based band, The Identity.
The festival continues on Sunday 3 June with a Family Celebration Service at 11am followed by The Big Jubilee Lunch in St Michael’s Church gardens from 12.30pm.
Reverend Oborne says, ‘We hope everyone – of all ages - will enjoy the festival and it will be a chance for us all to have fun, make some new friends and share the love of God in our community. Do join us.’
