Livia Firth Launches Her Own Designs

Plans to extend her eco-friendly fashion message with her own label

Livia Firth, wife of Oscar-winner Colin, has branched out into design and her first offering is a gold skull necklace.

Famous for her commitment to wearing environmentally-friendly gowns on the red carpet, she has expanded into Livia Firth Design, a small collection of luxury clothes and accessories.

The new brand was launched on her eco-age website, and the necklace, which costs £270, is described as "bringing an exciting edge to any outfit". She says that the skulls in her design represent "a little bit of danger but at the same time they are quite playful ".

Made by hand in a small artisan co-operative workshop in Devon, they employ the ancient Egyptian technique of the Lost Wax Casting for the detail in the moulded skulls. The necklace mixes present-day artisan skills with techniques 4000 years old.

There is also a video of Livia modelling the necklace on YouTube made by Eco-Age TV, displaying how it can be layered around the neck, worn long and loose, or the small skulls knotted together, or worn as a bracelet.

Her label Livia Firth Desgin (LFD), will be a small collection of luxury clothes and accessories that will be released individually throughout the year.

In recent years Livia, an Italian film producer who lives in Chiswick with her husband and two children, has pioneered the Green Carpet Challenge, wearing and encouraging other celebrities to wear gowns made from systainable materials. She has now has enlisted the sustainable fabric guru Guisy Bettoni and Director of CLASS (Creativity Lifestyle and Sustainable Synergy) to launch the Green Carpet Challenge Fabric Library.

Thee Green Carpet Challenge Fabric Library will offer not only the eco staples such as hemp and organic cotton but will provide ethical and sustainable alternatives for a whole spectrum of materials, covering all the bases from bed-wear to ball gowns.

Fabrics include; textiles made from wool, silk cashmere, cotton, linen, hemp, vegetable tanned and dyed leather, fabrics made from recycled polyester (eg. Newlife®), recycled polyamide, cashmere, cotton, denim and wool (eg. Cardato Regenerated) created to reduce carbon footprint.

Livia says she wants to encourage more ordinary people to become involved in wearing environmentally-friendly clothing and not just celebrities.
