Forget Glastonbury, Chiswick's Where It's At

Two local bands given chance to play live in front of 2,500 people

Chiswick Business Park, is giving two local bands the opportunity of a lifetime to perform on stage at an open air concert in front of 2,500 people.

Local musicians were invited by the office park to send in a demo CD showcasing their talent, in a competition where the top prize was a place on the bill at Yellow Umbrella Day 2008, Chiswick Park’s famous annual community festival, which this year takes place on Sunday 21st September.

Almost 40 local performers entered the competition, with the panel of judges so impressed by the standard of music; a decision was taken to award not one, but two bands with the opportunity to perform at Yellow Umbrella Day.

The winners are alternative soul and funk band, Two Spot Gobi, and pop group, Cushh. Fran Goddard, the Manager of Yellow Umbrella Day said, “We were overwhelmed at the level of response and extremely impressed by the caliber of bands. It was very hard to whittle them down, but we're really excited about the bands who will be playing. I'd like to say thank you to everyone who entered and to ChiswickW4.com for supporting such a worthwhile cause.”

Emmanuel from band Cushh said “We currently live in Chiswick, so it will be really exciting to get involved in a local fundraising event”. Kat Alder, manager of Two Spot Gobi, and director of WildKat PR was equally enthused at the prospect of playing at Yellow Umbrella Day. She describes the band as “a fun and caring group who enjoy getting involved in charity events. Generally they like to give a happy and positive message through their music and have a fan following of all ages young and old”.

Chiswick Park has confirmed that U2 tribute band, Elevation, will also be playing on the day, with further acts to be announced soon.

Now in its sixth year, Yellow Umbrella Day has become a fixture in the West London social calendar, as Chiswick Park throws open its doors and sends an open invitation to the public to join in an action-packed and fun-filled day of non-stop live music, street performers, a BBQ, stalls and loads of children’s entertainment.
