A private liberal arts university is planning to set up a campus in Chiswick Business Park next year.

Richmond, the American International University London has been based in Richmond Hill since its foundation in 1972. It awards US degrees from the state of Delaware as well as UK degrees which means its students get a degree from both the UK and the US by studying in one programme.

The university awards US degrees from the American state of Delaware, and up until 2018 also gave out degrees from the Open University but has since been given its own degree awarding powers.

The university is being forced to leave its existing premises after being given notice by the landlord. It is planning to move into Building 12 in June 2022 to provide facilities for 700 undergraduate students by that September. There will be an additional campus for post-grads in Kensington.

A change of use is required for the university to move into the building which is currently designated as office space but, apart from the creation of a new entrance, there will be no building works.

Internally, alterations will be made to space formally used by Disney to provide a new library (with 680 metres of shelving) and new study rooms and office space. A total of 96 desks will be provided for students and faculty. Students will attend courses and work on the campus throughout the day and the early evening.

A planning application will be submitted to London Borough of Hounslow, who will then carry out their own statutory consultation.

The University works on a Monday to Friday basis, with little or no attendance expected at weekends.

The new Chiswick Park campus will be the main location for the University’s undergraduates, with postgraduates remaining at the University’s Kensington facility.

More information on the proposals, is on RAIUL.site and you can email comments up until midday on 23 June to RAIUL@Yourshout.org.
