We had a busy few weeks in Parliament before breaking for the party conference season.
The Grenfell Tower final report was published, and I spoke in response to the Government’s statement 4. It was a sombre day in the House of Commons as we heard of the systemic failures which resulted in the fire of 14 June 2017.
Grenfell Tower remains a daily presence in the lives of West London residents. As we remember the tragedy seven years on, there remains a fight for justice for victims, survivors, and their families.
Select Committee elections took place last week, and I was delighted to be elected by MPs of all Parties to Chair the Justice Select Committee.
Locally I enjoyed attending Tidefest at Kew Bridge. I met with Thames 21 and In the Drink who do great work cleaning up our rivers and waterways. Both not-for-profits have dedicated volunteers who raise awareness of the dangers of single use plastic and rubbish in our waterways and regularly organise clean-ups to help protect our marine environments and the plants and animals that make the river their home.

At the unveiling of the new W4th Plinth I met the organisers and artist from what is now a fixture in the Chiswick diary. I also met residents at the Grove Park summer party and was honoured to be asked to be a judge at the Chiswick House Dog Show for the first time.

Residents seem to be winning the argument over changes to the Hogarth roundabout – I submitted my own objection to the closure of Church Street. There is also a problem with the river wall at Strand on the Green which I am investigating.
Plenty to keep us busy as autumn begins.
