Three dead in Chiswick road accident

Friends killed in a road traffic collision after a night out

At approximately 23:30 on Sunday night three men, all aged in their thirties, were in a blue Saab convertible driving westbound in the A4. As they approached Chiswick roundabout the car collided with a large road sign (beneath the elevated section of the M4).

They have been named as John McMullen from Chiswick, Steven Goddard, from Ruislip and Matthew O'Leary from Cove, near Farnborough in Hampshire. All three men were in their 30s.

Police, London Ambulance Service and HEMS arrived shortly afterwards. Two occupants were pronounced dead at the scene. The third was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at West Middlesex hospital.

John McMullen had recently become a father after his girlfriend gave birth to a baby girl the previous Friday. He lived close to the High Road and was a painter and decorator who was a regular at Jack Stamps pub.

The funeral of Matthew O'Leary, who grew up in Chiswick, will take place at Our Lady's Church on the High Road this Thursday (13th).

The incident is being investigated by the Collision Investigation Unit at Hampton under PS Diane Francis. Any witnesses should call them on 020 8247 6935.
