A man was taken to a major trauma centre after a serious collision near the Hogarth Roundabout on Tuesday morning (17 February), prompting the closure of the A316 Great Chertsey Road in both directions for several hours.

Emergency services were called shortly before 8.27am to Burlington Lane, near the junction with Corney Road. London Ambulance Service sent an ambulance, fast response cars and London’s Air Ambulance, which landed in the playing fields at Chiswick School. Paramedics treated the man at the scene before taking him to hospital by road.

The Metropolitan Police have now confirmed that the collision involved a car and a motorbike. Officers said they were called at to reports of a crash on Great Chertsey Road, W4. A 59-year-old man was assessed by paramedics and taken to hospital, where his injuries were later assessed to be neither life-changing or life threatening. No arrests have been made.

The collision caused significant disruption during the morning rush hour. Traffic was first diverted along Staveley Road, and enquiries have been made to Hounslow Council about whether restrictions on that road were temporarily lifted. Vehicles travelling towards Chiswick Bridge were later diverted via Mortlake Road towards Kew Bridge, leading to heavier than usual congestion across the area.

Transport for London advised motorists to avoid the A316 while emergency services worked at the scene, and bus routes serving Chiswick and Richmond experienced delays and diversions. The road reopened shortly before 1.30pm.

Police are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information is asked to contact 101, quoting CAD 1560/17FEB26.
