Elderly driver believed to be not seriously hurt after choosing wrong pedal

A car has crashed through a fence by the exit from the Sainsbury's car park in Chiswick this Friday afternoon (22 February).

Eye-witnesses say that an elderly female driver emerged shaken with some scratches but otherwise unhurt after the collision which took place at around 3pm and no other person was involved.

It is believed that the driver mistakenly pressed the accelerator when driving towards the barrier at the Belmont Road exit from the store.

A police spokespeson said, "Police were called by the London Ambulance Service at 3:01pm on Friday, 22 February to reports of a road traffic collision in a car park off Chiswick High Road, W4.

"Officers, the LAS and London Fire Brigade attended and found a car in collision with a wall.
The driver, believed to be aged in her 70s, does not have life-threatening or life-changing injuries.

"No arrests have been made".

A Sainsbury’s spokesperson said, “ Thankfully nobody was hurt. We’re supporting the police with their investigation.”
