Chiswick Choir Seeks New Talent

Get the feel good factor by singing

After the hugely successful series of TV programmes by Gareth Malone, the barriers to singing have broken down. And one of the best ways of singing is to join a choir. Chiswick Choir has called upon locals who are interested to get in touch for their next performance in the spring of 2013.

The Chiswick Choir www.chiswickchoir.org.uk has been successfully performing with a full orchestra for over 30 years, and is always on the lookout for new voices. They normally have about eighty members but can take up to 100. They rehearse in St. Michael’s Church hall on Elmwood Road.

Their next performance will be on December 1st at St. Michael and All Angels Church, where they will perform music composed by Sir Hubert Parry (1846-1918), who is best known for composing ‘ Jerusalem’ and ‘I was glad’.

Chiswick has a history of choirs. Within W4, there is a huge variety available to suit every voice from classical concert choirs and choral societies, church choirs and community choirs or singing groups, covering everything from Mozart, traditional church music, gospel, rock, barbershop, traditional folk to beat box .

One experienced local says; “Even if you’ve never done it before, there is a choir for you – some include outright beginners, others require a certain level of sight-reading (but this includes rusty experience from school, as practice really does make perfect) - through to singers with a lot of experience.

“It’s a badly kept secret that singing can help make you happy. Whether you’re in the bath, karaoke-ing or Christmas carolling, singing has a way of releasing endorphins that lifts the spirits”.

“You may be asked to audition but don’t panic! It’s usually to find out where your voice sits best in the choir, bring along something you know and have a go,” she said.
