The Clayton Hotel hosted the Hounslow Council’s Fostering Awards Ceremony on Friday 11 November to celebrate the work of its foster carers in the borough.

It was an opportunity to bring together the long serving in-house foster parents in recognition of their work. At the ceremony, those parents that had served for 5 years, 10 years, 20 years, and 30 years were honoured.

A Chiswick couple, Adiam and Eseyas, collected their award for 5 years of service. There was also an award for Theresa Potter of Hounslow for her 30 years of service. She has fostered well over 50 children to date.

Speaking at the event, Cllr Ron Mushiso said, “ It is heart-warming to meet our foster careers and to thank them directly for their service. These parents are very special. Every single one of them spoke passionately about their role as parents and their willingness to improve the lives of often troubled young people. These are often young people with challenging backgrounds, so securing a foster home is lifeline”

Cllr Mushiso, himself carer leaver, credits his upbringing to the role that Hounslow’s social services and his foster parents played.

In total there are well over 300 looked after children in Hounslow borough. There is still a shortage of foster parents to cater for them all. In additional there are several unaccompanied minors that arrive in the Borough every year in need of a loving home.

Hounslow’s social services team are actively recruiting for new foster parents. There are several options available, including short-term fostering and fostering for infants. Click here for further details.
