Firefighters at the Chiswick station, inspired by the efforts of Colonel Tom Moore, have embarked on an epic journey to nowhere.

Along with their colleagues at other stations in Hounslow Borough they have undertaken to run on a treadmill for 24 hours a day for a whole week.

Starting at 8pm on the day of ‘Captain Tom’s’ 100th birthday on 30 April they are running continuously by relay until next Thursday. As well as the Chiswick firefighters there will be those from Heston and Feltham. They will walk run or jog for house at a time each sometimes in their fire gear or in specialist kit. This Friday morning (1 May) it was the turn of Chiswick-base Firefighter Roman Harris

They say this symbolises that they are hear for us 24 hours a day 7 days a week 365 days a year, as are all emergency services . They are raising money for both their own charity and the NHS. Any funds raised will be split equally between both.

The Firefighters Charity usually raises money by car washes and other charity events but with most of these being cancelled due to Covid-19 and social distancing they still wanted to do their bit. The charity plays a vital part in getting firefighters and their families back to fitness following physical and mental injuries. This is especially important at the moment as firefighters have stepped up nationally to help in a variety of extra roles including supporting the ambulance service, delivering food and prescriptions to the vulnerable.

If you want to support their efforts they have set up a Just Giving page for online donations.
