Men Behaving Dadly in Chiswick

Fun weekend sessions just for dads and their children

Dads in Hounslow have the chance to bond with their kids through Men Behaving Dadly (MBD), a Street Dreams charity initiative.

Designed for fathers with children under seven years old, these fun sessions are a way for dads and their kids to spend their weekends together, and get active and imaginative at the same time.

Sessions are held on Saturday and Sunday mornings at the Chiswick Children's Centre.

The wide range of fun activities include painting, making musical instruments, planting, going on nature walks, and even a visit to Santa's Grotto.

One dad who attended said: “MBD is a fantastic setting for me to have quality time with my 19 month old son. We are developing our relationship in a well organised and safe environment along with other like minded dads and children. We both love it and look forward to it every week.”

After attending MBD sessions one child was described as “a lot more confident, whereas he used to be afraid when other children approached him, he did not even want children looking at him. Now he approaches other children, even older ones and feels comfortable interacting with them.”

MBD is delivered by trained male community workers who can also provide advice and information to dads during and after the sessions. The project is funded by the Hounslow Sure Start Children's Centres, and is regarded by dads and kids alike as a wonderful experience.

Street Dreams has been running MBD in Buckinghamshire for five years, and this is its third year in the London Borough of Hounslow.
