Brits Award Goes To Chiswick Musician

Kyle Simmons of Bastille one of two acts with Chiswick connections nominated

The family and friends of Chiswick musician Kyle Simmons, keyboard player with Bastille, were celebrating last week as the band took home the British Breakthrough Award at the Brit awards.

Kyle was educated at Belmont Primary and later Chiswick Community School before going on to find fame with the group whose hit album Bad Blood, has sold over 2 million copies.

Their hit song Pompeii, was in the Top Ten in over a dozen countries, and Things We Lost In The Fire was also a chart hit.

There was stiff competition in that category from three other groups, including London Grammar whose singer Hannah Reid has strong links with Chiswick and who have had huge success over the past year.

A friend of Kyle's commented: "I'm very proud to know him as a friend and have him live in our area."

The band started as a solo project by Dan Smith (born on French Bastille Day) from Kingston upon Thames and now consists of a four-piece line up. They were nominated in four categories for the Brits this year.
