Chiswick Band Hope To Sing The Blues In Canada

3am through to next round of New Brunswick contest

A blues band from Chiswick, 3am, has been chosen as one of six acts to compete in the next round of The New Brunswick Battle of the Blues contest.

The competition is organised by the Canadian province of New Brunswick, which is seeking UK blues bands to play at its famous Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival held in the capital Fredericton. The annual event attracts international jazz, blues and rock artists and the city is also famous for its indie music scene.

Founder members are brothers Tim and Andy Renton – guitars and drums – who cut their teeth on the rock bands of the 70’s and played with Mike Batt as the original Wombles, appearing on Top of the Pops nine times. Another regular on Top of the Pops and the Old Grey Whistle Test is keyboard player Chris Parren – he’s toured with Maggie Bell and AC/DC. Laura Long, vocalist joined the band in 2011 and Phil Evans is their bassist.

The UK-wide talent search has reached its second stage and 3am are hoping to get through to the London final in March but first they have to get through the next stage in Hove, Brighton in January. The winners of the 5 UK heats and a ‘Judges Choice’ will compete to be the overall winner of the competition next March.

The winner will be flown out on an all-expenses paid trip to New Brunswick, Canada, to perform main stage at the province’s Festival in September 2013.

Main band site is www.3am.uk.com and on Twitter.
