Addison Jazz's next concert will feature Godolphin Year 7 student
Out of the Box: an evening of music from TV and film is the next concert from Addison Singers jazz choir, and features a Year Seven student for what they say will be a 'Christmas Cracker' of a concert on Saturday 21 November 2015.
When the Addison Singers jazz choirs were looking for a child to take a solo for their upcoming concert, they sought advice from the highly regarded Tri-borough Music Hub and were directed to The Young Singers. This auditioned choir for gifted primary school singers, run by the Tri-borough Music Hub in partnership with The Bach Choir, have performed in the Festival Hall, Royal Albert Hall and recorded for BBC 3.
From amongst their ranks Addison Jazz found Marika Karatapelis, a Year 7 student at Godolphin & Latymer School, to feature in Howard Goodall’s utterly beautiful arrangement of The Lord is my Shepherd. This song will be familiar to many as the theme to the Vicar of Dibley and it is from TV and film that Jill Jarman, Addison Jazz choir conductor, sought inspiration in programming their upcoming concert.
Jill, whose work as a contemporary composer is becoming increasingly known and performed worldwide, has included her original arrangements of the iconic theme tunes to Dr Who and Hawaii Five-0, along with the Pink Panther and film favourites such as Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend and As Time Goes By.
The Addison jazz choir, ensemble and some top musicians join forces in what is shaping up to be Christmas cracker of a concert. With such a familiar mix of music from film and TV shows that you know and love there will be something for the whole family. What a cracking start to the festive season. They also welcome new singers, so check them out.
