In line with the huge increase in demand for flexible collaborative spaces, UBCUK has introduced a premium coworking space to its newly refurbished business centre in Brentford, West London.
The new space was officially launched in May this year upon completion of the first phase of a 6-month renovation of The Mille Business Centre, undertaken jointly by UBC and building landlord McKay Securities. The £1.3 million refurbishment covers two floors of the business centre and introduces high quality, bespoke coworking space for entrepreneurs and startups. UBC's coworking space at The Mille offers a professional, fully serviced workspace with flexible monthly terms and on-site support from UBC's team of receptionists, and is already home to a number of local entrepreneurs. UBC's coworking option provides a smart communal office with a choice of day rates or simple, flexible monthly terms.
Entrepreneurs benefit from a private desk with lockable storage, mail handling services, a professional Brentford business address, Wi-Fi, and on-demand access to fully equipped meeting rooms. UBC's monthly coworking plans also provide a dedicated landline number and daily call answering from UBC's own professional receptionists. In addition to physical workspace, UBC provides various services and initiatives at The Mille to help local business owners and teams thrive. UBC has partnered with national small business network, Enterprise Nation, to help build an entrepreneurial community through its technology platform to facilitate connections between coworking members.
Emma Jones, Enterprise Nation founder, commented: “Today's coworking spaces often curate communities, building the right productive atmosphere to generate success. “Coworking spaces and business centres are no longer simply a place to put your laptop and buy a nice coffee. Their benefit also lies in the community and the collaboration that might bring.”
Flexible workspace options for growing businesses
In addition to coworking for small businesses, UBC operates a range of private serviced offices spanning two floors along with managed spaces for 10-15 people, suitable for project teams and growing SMEs looking to scale-up into a larger environment. All workspace and meeting rooms boast top of the range furniture, high-speed Internet connectivity, and contemporary decor and fittings throughout.
Richard Johnson, Managing Director at UBCUK, commented: “We've always provided good quality flexible workspace backed by excellent customer service to support regional startups and small businesses, and now we're taking things further. What we're doing at The Mille marks a step-change in UBC's journey.
“By making a significant investment in The Mille, we're raising the bar yet again and introducing a high standard of flexible workspace that befits the quality of businesses found here.
“Brentford is a real hive of entrepreneurial spirit, and we are working hard to create a thriving and supportive business community in our space to assist the ongoing growth of these promising businesses.”
Coworking, which forms part of the wider flexible workspace sector, has seen rocketing growth in recent years. A report by CBRE focusing on flexible space -- incorporating serviced offices, coworking space, accelerators and incubators -- attributes part of this growth to the “inflexible nature” of London's traditional office leases and a boom in the number of small and micro businesses since the recession, which are fuelling demand for flexible space. In particular, the report finds that London's flexible workspace market has grown from an average of 2% of annual office take-up, to 8% in 2016 and a massive 15% in H1 2017. Numerous research studies predict this trend to continue, in London and across the UK, particularly as large corporate firms are also seeking ways to incorporate greater flexibility into their commercial space.
