Revisions Made To Tesco/Homebase Plan

Revisions have been made to the plans submitted for the development of the Tesco and Homebase sites near Gillette Corner.

57 new documents with nearly 4,000 pages have been published by Berkeley/St Edward for the two linked schemes.

It is understood that these documents are in part response to concerns raised about the development by the Greater London Assembly (GLA), Transport for London (TfL) and council planners but they contain no major alterations to the scheme. The main changes relate to energy strategy and some minor changes to the junction at Gillette Corner.

In an update to members The Osterley & Wyke Green Residents’ Association (OWGRA) said, “The submission of additional or replacement documents is nothing unexpected with such large planning applications, and we had planned for this eventuality.

“The changes are very disappointing, as they do not address the concerns of local residents and OWGRA.”

OWGRA continues to have serious reservations about the scheme. There are 1670 units proposed for the current Tesco site, a Tesco store and 480 units on the Homebase site which objectors say is a significant over development of the area. Buildings of over 17-storeys will tower above the predominantly two storey residential buildings in the vicinity. There are also concerns that the schemes are not compliant with the Local Plan and the London Plan.

An additional four weeks has been given to respond to the changes in the additional documentation with the deadline now 24 February. OWGRA says it will be reviewing them and will advise residents on how to respond.

The documents relating to the application have been published on the OWGRA web site to make them easier to access than they currently are on the council’s site.

The reference numbers for the applications are Homebase site P/2020/3099, Tesco site P/2020/3100.

You can access the Design and Access Statement for the Homebase site here and the same document for the Tesco site which the developer has named Osterley Place here. Both documents, while containing a significant number of CGI visualisations of how the developments might look have few which give any impression of how their scale might look in context.
