Developer wants to built flats on site of historic pub
The company seeking to redevelop the site of O'Riordan's Tavern on High Street Brentford has appealed against Hounslow Council's refusal of its planning application.
Innergysave Ltd has made its appeal to the Secretary of State in a bid to revive the project to demolish the pub and construct a three storey building with lower ground floor to create four new flats and a community use space.
The council planners recommended refusal of the original application due to the loss of community facility and inadequate re-provision as well as the harm to the character and appearance of the site and surrounding area. In addition they referred to inadequate cycle parking in the design proposal.
There were nine comments on the application with 7 opposing and 2 in support.
The first pub listed at the riverside site was The Jolly Tar which was there in 1888 and since then it has had a number of names including The Yacht, and Captain Morgans.
The building had been put on sale for prices of around £1.5 million or an annual rent of £52,000. According to the applicant the majority of enquiries were looking at residential conversion or redevelopment. They said that no enquiries were made to take on the pub as a going concern and that it is currently unsustainable because of the size of the kitchen, issues with access, limited garden space, no parking and proximity to residential dwellings restricting live events. In addition competition from larger neighbouring pubs such as the Express Tavern and One Over the Ait is said to have made the location unviable.

The appeal will be determined on the basis of written representations with the Planning Inspector taking into account any comments made at the time of the original application.
If you wish to make comments, or modify/withdraw your previous representation, you can do so by emailing north1@planninginspectorate.gov.uk quoting reference: APP/F5540/W/21/3269437 before 5 August.
The original application can be seen by visiting the Hounslow Council planning website and entering the application ref P/2020/1254.
