Great West Road Storage Facility Approved
Councillors give go ahead for eleven storey building by Ealing Road

Councillors voted unanimously this Monday (5 February) in favour of an application (P/2023/1974) to build an eleven storey storage facility in Brentford.
Although some of the local ward representatives had reservations about the proposal, the planning officer’s report on the scheme had recommended approval for the scheme which includes light industrial workspace for incubator units at the junction of the Great West Road and Ealing Road. The attempt to echo the Art Deco style of the surrounding area was praised and the planning team concluded that the operation would generate 67 jobs but not a significant amount of extra traffic.

Nine objections were received to the application on the grounds of height, loss of light and privacy, noise and disturbances and more traffic.
The facility, on the vacant site next to the Premier Inn will be operated by Karbon and is a similar height to the hotel and the building on the opposite side of Ealing Road. The site was once a part of the wider Alfa Laval and Baltic Centre complex, which since its demolition in 1996. has been redeveloped in fragments including the Premier Inn.
There will be no access to the self-storage units in the building from Ealing Road. Customers would need to turn left off the Great West Road to a reception point on the west side of the building.

Built floorspace will comprise 3,349sqm GIA but this can be increased to 7544sqm GIA through the use of demountable mezzanine floors.
A £50,000 contribution will be made by the developer for investigations into improved crossing facilities nearby on the A4.
