The Secret Marriage - Pop Up Opera

Back by popular demand the London Museum of Water and Steam is delighted to announce that the critically acclaimed Pop-Up Opera will be returning on the 25th of May to perform Domenico Cimarosa’s ‘Cimarosa Il matrimonio segreto (The Secret Marriage)’

An 18th-century Italian comic opera by Domenico Cimarosa. You can hear the influence of Mozart in the music. Filled with comic intrigues and confusions, the story is about following your heart, and makes a perfect summer opera filled with our special Pop-up Opera humour, sparkle and fun.

Its première was the occasion of the longest encore in operatic history; Leopold II was so delighted that he ordered supper served to the company and the entire opera repeated immediately after!

The London Museum of Water & Steam is located within the buildings of the former Grand Junction Waterworks Company, and tells the captivating story of London’s water supply through the ages.

The Museum houses a world-class collection of monumental pumping steam engines in their original locations a narrow gauge railway, a beautiful garden and fully interactive galleries – including hands-on activities for children throughout the Museum and in our Splash Zone.

The whole family will see the industrial age brought to life through the sights, sounds and smells of working steam engines – offering a world of adventure waiting to be explored.

Finish off your day with a visit to the Birdies @ Stokers Café and a treat from our gift shop.

Opening hours: The Museum is open 11am -4pm daily. Stokers Café is open daily 10am-4.30pm.
Except 25, 26 and 27 December.  The Museum has a small free car park.

How to find us: London Museum of Water and Steam is situated in Green Dragon Lane, about 200 yards from the north side of Kew Bridge and under the tall Victorian Tower. The nearest motorway is the M4 (Junction 2 signposted to Kew Gardens and North/South Circular roads, then pick up signs for Kew, Brentford and Hounslow). The museum car park has space for 40 cars or 4 coaches. N.B. we are outside the Congestion Charge Zone!

Public Transport: Buses: 65, 237, 267, 391.
Main Line Train: Kew Bridge (South West Trains from Waterloo) Gunnersbury (North London Line) then 237 or 267 bus.
London Underground: Gunnersbury (District Line) then 237 or 267 bus. South Ealing (Piccadilly Line) then 65 bus.

10% discount for advance online bookings.

The rotative engines are in steam every weekend along with our Cornish engines on selected weekends. The Waterworks Railway runs every Saturday and Sunday and selected school holiday dates. Check the website for special days when we steam for schools and for group booking information.

The museum is available for hire for wedding receptions, corporate functions and private events. The newly refurbished Babcock room is also available for meetings, community activities and smaller social celebrations such as children’s birthday parties, christenings and celebrations of life.
