Alison Shephard and Caroline Ramond with Alexander and Antoine
May 22, 2025
Three local parents who began rowing in autumn 2024 after being inspired by their children’s involvement with Brentford Boat Club competed in this year’s Kingston Regatta. Alison Shephard, Caroline Ramond, and Sarah Ghai joined the Brentford Masters group last September and, following the Masters’ transition to Quintin Boat Club, raced in the Mixed Novice Coxed Quad under Quintin colours.
Their children—Alexander and Antoine—secured victory in the Open Double Scull (Band 1) for Brentford Boat Club, while Elina coxed the winning J13 crew. The parents’ participation marked a notable milestone in their first year of rowing, with support from both clubs acknowledged.
Brentford Boat Club entered 23 crews in total, achieving a range of results across junior categories:
- Semi-finalists included WJ13 4x+, J15 2x, WJ15 2x, WJ16 2x, and W 2x (Senior/J18)
- Runners-up included J14 2x (two crews), J14 4x+, and J13 2x
- Winners included J13 4x+ and J13 8x+
The club was awarded the Victor Ludlum Cup in recognition of its overall performance. Chair Emily Wolski praised the commitment of all athletes, highlighting the achievements of the three parents who balanced training with full-time work and progressed to competitive racing within a year.
Both Brentford and Quintin Boat Clubs expressed pride in the crews’ efforts and are looking ahead to further competitions, including Henley next season.
Brentford Boat Club is a community and volunteer-run charity club which welcomes new members from all levels. It is one of the few organisations providing access for local children offering both successful performance and youth recreational rowing opportunities.
Currently operating from portacabins at Ferry Quays, it aims to have a Community Boat House with basic facilities for future generations.
