A man has died after a fire broke out in a residential street in Brentford this Sunday afternoon (13 November).
The Fire Brigade says it was called at 4.03pm to reports of a serious fire at a block in Netley Road opposite Coates Walk.
Crews from Chiswick and surrounding stations were sent to the scene. Around 65 firefighters and eight fire engines were in attendance.
A 70-year-old woman was rescued from the first floor by firefighters in breathing apparatus and taken to hospital where it has been reported she remains in a coma and another woman left the two storey building property before the Brigade arrived and was also taken to hospital.
Once inside the property, firefighters found a man on the ground floor. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The fire was under control in just over an hour leaving the building badly damaged.
The dead man has been named locally as 34-year-old Ali Khan. His mother 65-year-old Bobbie Wason was the woman who escaped from the fire before it took hold. She said afterwards that she is still searching for some of the 16 cats that were living in the property but fled during the fire. She believes an 11 week old kitten may have perished.
The Leader of Hounslow Council, Councillor Shantanu Rajawat said: "I am deeply shocked and saddened to hear about this tragic incident and the death of one of our council tenants yesterday in Brentford.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with Ali’s family during this difficult time.
"We are working with the London Fire Brigade to provide any assistance.”
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
