Women of Acton Hosts Packed Event at ActOne Cinema
'In Celebration Of Women' included music, poetry and calls to action
Tickets for the event sold out within a week
A recent event organised by the Women of Acton Group saw a packed audience hear a selection of music, poetry and inspirational talks.
Held on Thursday 10 March, ‘In Celebration Of Women’ was held in memory of Sarah Everard and 125 other women murdered in this country since her death in 2021. As well as Sarah Everard these killings included those of Ayshling Murphy, Sabine Nessa, Nicole Smallman and Bibaa Henry.
Tickets for the event at the ActOne cinema sold out within a week of going on sale.
It opened with the hard-hitting poem, ‘The Last Mile’ by Mary Egan Campbell, read by Natasha Barnes.
Following that actor Emilia Fox gave a reading of an extract from Jacqueline Wilson’s ‘Cookie’.

Pragna Patel gave a speech in which she encouraged all women to never stop campaigning for a world where violence against women will no longer be tolerated.
Singer-songwriters, Maddy and Claudia Tarantino each took up different themes of womanhood in their performances which were received with rousing applause.
Every ticket for the event was sold
PC Emma Green highlighted issues around incidents of violence not being reported and spoke about the importance of reporting every uncomfortable and potentially dangerous incident, no matter how small, so that that the police and the council can tackle problem areas in the neighbourhood.
Joan Smith had been scheduled to speak but was unable to attend, due to Covid.
Profits from ticket sales will be donated to Ealing DVA, an organisation that runs women’s refuges in Acton.
‘Women of Acton’ plan to organise further events including monthly walks.
