A 14-year-old student from Ellen Wilkinson School for Girls is bringing together local residents, DJs and a neighbourhood pub for a community-focused event in Acton later this month.

Aurora, who is organising the event as part of her Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award, is behind “Dinner & Decks”, an afternoon gathering that combines music, food and social connection.

The event will take place at The Rocket on Churchfield Road on Sunday 28 June from 1pm to 6pm, with free entry for all attendees.

Described as a relaxed community afternoon, Dinner & Decks aims to bring people together through a shared enjoyment of music while supporting a local venue.

Aurora, who is leading the project, said the event is designed to foster connections between people in the local area.

“I wanted to organise something that helps bring people together. Dinner & Decks is about meeting people, enjoying music and supporting our local community.”

The organisers are also inviting local DJs to take part, with a particular interest in performers specialising in Organic, Deep and Afro House music.

Organisers hope the event will attract a wide mix of attendees, including local residents, music enthusiasts and aspiring DJs from across West London. As well as showcasing music, the afternoon is intended to provide a welcoming environment where people can connect with neighbours and discover new sounds.

Dinner & Decks forms part of Aurora’s Duke of Edinburgh community project, which encourages young people to take initiative in supporting their communities.
