A 12-year-old author from Acton has been honoured with a Global Child Prodigy Award, recognising her early achievements in writing and her commitment to inspiring others. Lauryn Rose Teixeira was among 100 children from around the world celebrated at a ceremony held at the House of Commons in London earlier this month.

Lauryn published her first book, Lauryn That’s Me, at the age of nine while attending primary school in Acton. The book, which explores her African-Portuguese heritage and personal experiences growing up in a single-parent household, has been released in four languages. She is believed to be the youngest author of Afro-Portuguese descent to publish a book in the UK.

Speaking after receiving the award, Lauryn said she was “proud to be making an impact on my community, and globally now, too.” Her writing reflects themes of identity, resilience, and equality, drawing on her own family’s story during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Lauryn lives in Acton with her mother, Cristina, and younger brother Joylen, who at age nine has already launched his own fashion line. Cristina described the family’s journey through financial hardship and praised her children’s determination: “Despite the obstacles, my children never stopped following their dreams.”

In addition to writing, Lauryn is active in Taekwondo and enjoys spending time at Ealing Riding School. Her second book, Lauryn’s Kitchen, is due for release soon. She is also expected to attend the BBC’s Make a Difference Awards later this month to receive further recognition for her work.
