HS2 to Dismantle Victoria Road Spoil Conveyor Bridge
Removal of part of 2.7km long structure will require road closures

A major phase of HS2 construction in North Acton is set to conclude next month with the removal of the large spoil conveyor bridge spanning Victoria Road. The works will require a weekend road closure from Friday 3 to Monday 6 October. affecting the stretch between Chandos Road and Midland Terrace. If delayed by weather or other factors, additional closures may occur on the weekends of 10–13 and 17–20 October.
The conveyor bridge, which links HS2’s Flat Iron and Atlas Road sites, was a key component of the 2.7km spoil conveyor system constructed to support tunnelling operations in West London. Designed to transport excavated material from the Northolt Tunnel and crossover box to Willesden Euro Terminal, the bridge helped eliminate over one million lorry movements from local roads, significantly reducing traffic congestion and emissions.
Installed in 2022, the bridge became a prominent feature of the North Acton skyline, running adjacent to the Dudding Hill rail bridge. It was part of a wider logistics network operated by the Skanska Costain STRABAG joint venture (SCS JV), which used the system to move more than five million tonnes of spoil from tunnel sites to processing hubs.
HS2 confirmed that the conveyor is no longer needed, as excavation work in the area has concluded. The dismantling process will involve crane operations, during which the footpath may also be temporarily closed. Diversions for vehicles and pedestrians will be clearly signposted.
