New Recording of Joe Strummer's Acton Town Hall Gig to Be Released

A new recording of a legendary gig by Joe Strummer and The Mescaleros at Acton Town Hall is being released.
The London Benefit Concert also featured a surprise appearance by Mick Jones which is the first time they had played together for two decades and was the closest the Clash ever came to reuniting.
There were rumours of a possible reunion ahead of the gig on 15 November 2002 which was being held for striking firefighters. During the performance, Strummer said that public service workers like teachers, nurses and firefighters deserve to be paid decent wages and have decent working conditions.
Without any prior notice, Mick Jones jumped onto the stage and the band finished with three Clash classics, “Bankrobber,” “White Riot” and of course “London’s Burning”.
It was the last ever performance by Joe Strummer in London. Just over a month later he died on 22 December having only just turned 50.
The concert will be available on 18 August on a Remastered CD and a two LP Clear vinyl version issued by Dark Horse Records.
The vinyl is packaged in a gatefold sleeve featuring never-before-seen photos from the show, plus new liner notes. This will be the first time the concert has been properly released with full packaging on vinyl, with its extremely limited previous incarnation as a Record Store Day exclusive in 2012 featuring just a DIY-inspired clear sleeve, and the first time it has ever been released on CD.
