A 19-year-old man has been detained by the police following the fire at a house in Horn Lane, Acton this Tuesday morning (11 October).

He has been arrested on suspicion of arson following a series of fires at five different locations in Ealing. He remains in custody at a north west London police station.

Nine people needed to be rescued from the fire above an estate agents near the junction with Churchfield Road.

Three women, two men and two children were lifted from a second floor of the property above Atlas Estate Agents and adjacent to the Estoril restaurant. Firefighters used a nearby buildings ladder to rescue a further two men who were on a flat roof at the rear of the block. Two men were taken to hospital suffering from the effects of smoke inhalation with a number of others treated at the scene.

Station Manager Carl St Paul, who was at the scene said, “The initial crews worked exceptionally hard to rescue men, women and children from the blaze which was well developed. The fire was under control at around 6.30am but we’ll have crews here throughout the morning damping down. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the police and fire investigators.”
