"Some officers can go their whole career without seeing anything like that"
Over 2500 cannabis plants worth hundreds of thousands of pounds together with specialist cultivation equipment was discovered by officers from Ealing at a North Acton industrial estate.
To their surprise, on Friday February 26th officers investigating the report of a burglary at one of the units at Gorst Road NW10 discovered a 3 storey high, house-like wooden structure erected inside 3265 sq foot warehouse.
The representatives of the electric company called to the premises dealt with hazardous electricity installations, before allowing police officers to safely gather the evidence and secure the scene.
Among officers attending the scene, there were three new recruits: PC Hayley Penfold, PC Will Hudson and PC Djamel Benlakehal, with only one week of service each.
PC Paul Diamond who together with Instructor Joanne Curran coordinated the operation said: “In my 8 years as a Police Constable, I have never seen anything like that before. We believe that various stages of plants found at the scene indicate that this place may have been in operation for quite some time. The find represents a significant amount of drugs which now will not reach the streets, possibly saving someone’s life.”
DC Russell from Acton CID added: “Some officers can go their whole career without seeing anything like that.”
No arrests have been made at this stage. Officers continue to investigate the case and are trying to identify possible suspects.
