Man Dies at Ark Soane Academy Construction Site

A worker on the construction site next to the Ark Soane Academy fell to his death earlier this month.
The man was working on scaffolding at the northern end of the project close to Woodlands Avenue on 5 July when the fatality occurred.
A spokesperson for Jerram Falkus who are managing the project on behalf of the Department for Education said, “An incident occurred on 05 July 2023 at our Woodlands Avenue, Acton construction site, where a Scaffolder fell from a height.
“Sadly, the worker did not survive his injuries.
“The site has been secured, and we are offering our full support to the police and HSE.
“Our sincerest thoughts and condolences go out to the worker’s family, friends and co-workers.
“We will continue to work with the relevant authorities to carry out a full investigation. As this is ongoing, it would be inappropriate to comment further.”
The project was meant to be completed by March of this year after already missing a number of completion milestones.
When finished, the scheme will include premises for the Ark Soane Academy which will have a capacity for 1,200 pupils as well as 113 flats and three houses. It is located on the site of the former Acton College which was part of Ealing Hammersmith & West London College.
The incident occured in an area which is not accessible to the school community, so there was no risk to students, staff, or visitors.

Ark Soane Academy will occupy the first three floors of the six to 12-storey building, as well as the surrounding grounds, which include a multi-use games area, sports hall and playgrounds. The residential proportion of the scheme was topped out a year ago.
Matt Neuberger, Principal at Ark Soane Academy, said, "It is a tragic and difficult time for all those affected by the recent accident. We send our deepest condolences."
