An Acton charity which helps hundreds of poor and homeless is seeking new trustees.
Acton Homeless Concern opened its doors 28 years ago and workers say it is a sad indictment that is as much needed now as it was then.
Volunteers help serve between 250 and 300 hot free meals each day - in winter this can rise to as many as 350. The charity's mission is to provide a caring and safe environment for the poor, the marginalised and those who suffer from isolation or are in any kind of physical or emotional need. It's financed by annual funding from The Irish Department of Foreign Affairs, other small grant-giving trusts, local businesses, churches and schools and private benefactors. Additional finance is provided by fundraising events organised by our board of trustees, staff and volunteers.
Ealing's former Mayor, Dr Patricia Walker, made AHC her official charity (2016-17) and raised £22,500.
The charity cannot exist without Trustees who need to attend up to 11 monthly meetings a year including the AGM to ensure the proper and effective oversight of finances, policies and operations. Trustees are unpaid and cover their own expenses and give their time freely outside the meeting cycle to further the aims of the charity and to raise funds.
Ideally prospective candidates will have skills, contacts and experiences that will complement the background of the existing Trustees.
